Dates & Prices

The focus of the Black Flag Running Club is to get you prepared for the race you want to run and help you "run your own path."  Whether your goal is one of San Diego's major races or a race out of town, we have a program for you. The training programs covers seasons over the course of a 9-month period. This includes the all of San Diego major races and the Triple Crown series for a total of 42 weeks of training. 

Since the race registration fees are NOT included with the training programs, you can choose whatever race you wish to train for – as long as it fits within the particular season, plus or minus a week or two. See our Race List to find out which season is best for you.  

A Building Progression

We have designed the entire year to slowly build in overall progression of training, intensity, technical information (clinics) and workouts. This is why, for example, we don't have a beginner program for the Summer Season, which is the last season in the cycle. It’s also why we don't do track workouts in the Winter Season or have the “Running 101” clinic at the start of summer. The Spring Season builds on the Winter, and the Summer builds on the Spring. However, if your are looking to PR your next race, don't worry! We'll still have your share of challenging training runs to help you get there.  

Training Seasons Overview

Winter 2018 Season

There is one unique training program that operates during Winter Season from October to January for people Running Carlsbad Half or until March for people training for the SD Half. You pick the race and we will get you ready. 

This program is either 12-week for Carlsbad Half training program or 19 weeks if you are training for the SD Half marathons. By mid-January runners will be able to complete a half marathon. This is perfect for those considering some of the most popular races during this season -- the Carlsbad Half, Surf City, San Diego Rock 'n' Roll Half or Full Marathons, the San Diego Half and the La Jolla Half Marathon. You choose which races are right for you!

* The San Diego Half Marathon and La Jolla Half Marathon race are optional for those in the Rock 'n' Roll Program. Many will simply focus on a solid 20-week half or full training regimen only. Similarly, if you are starting your first training program during this Spring Season, the La Jolla Half Marathon will likely come too quickly for you. The point is to give you as much flexibility as possible and help you "run your own path."

Spring 2019 Season

There is one unique training program that operates during the Spring Season from January to June.

This 20-week training program prepares runners for both half and full marathons. By April runners will be able to complete a half marathon. By June runners will be able to complete a full marathon. This is perfect for those considering some of the most popular races during this season -- the San Diego Rock 'n' Roll Half or Full Marathons, the San Diego Half and the La Jolla Half Marathon. You choose which races are right for you!

Summer 2018 Season

There is one unique training program that operates during the Summer Season from June to August.

The 11-week Half Marathon Training Program has a focus on the summer races, which include the America’s Finest City (AFC) Half Marathon. This program is Perfect for runners who are looking to train specifically for the Craft Classic San Diego and AFC Half.

*NOTE: If you are signing up for the Summer Season Training Program only, this “Beginner – Run/Walk” program is a little more fast past than the Winter and Spring Season. Those with NO running experience should review their experience and current fitness levels before joining. This is different than the Winter and Spring Half Marathon programs, which do have defined beginner – run/walk components included.

Multiple Training Seasons

Multiple training programs span more than one season. They are designed for those who want to make the commitment of a longer training session and save money at the same time.

We offer 3 combination training seasons programs:

  • An extended 32-week training program for both Winter and Spring, which is recommended for first-time marathoners .
  • An extended 31-week training program for both Spring and Summer.
  • An extended 43 week-training program for both Winter, Spring and Summer.
